WEEK FOUR: INVESTIGATION (?? remain) On Friday morning at 7am, all the doors will unlock and the participants may traverse between areas again. Participants will find that, as they leave wherever they slept, everything feels... unclear? Did they see whoever they were with? They can no longer remember. Even for those who spent the night alone, they can feel that something is off. It doesn't seem as though the Leaders are around, but at this point, everyone should realize what has happened. Time to investigate. ༶•┈┈⛧┈｡o°✥✣ 　　 ✣✥°o｡┈⛧┈┈•༶ Welcome to your fifth investigation! We will be posting top-levels for searchable locations—one set at 6pm EST and another set at 7pm EST. Each location will contain evidence to find, though it's up to your efforts as to whether you find all of it. Please coordinate investigation groups on Discord, as we ask that group threads consist of no more than 2-3 characters. We will stop tagging each top-level two hours after it went up, i.e. at 8pm and 9pm EST, respectively. Don't worry if you don't find everything! Characters will get the chance to revisit locations tomorrow at trial. At 9pm EST, an announcement will go up, confirming the victim(s). Not far, I would hope. With abandoned mines such as these, the further one goes in, the more dangerous it grows, I have found.

[ Well, the thing they will all notice immediately is that they can walk maybe five feet into the mine before running straight into a cave in. Hm. Oops. There was nothing out of place inside the mine before that, though! Yay. The carts and dead canary cages are all fine. Well. The few that are on the tracks before the cave in.

Alphinaud gives the area a cursory glance before they enter, so he gets to see that there's something near the sign before the mine. ]

Boo to you, too. [he will leave alphinaud to look at that something since he did not see, but he also begins to poke at the cave-in with the tip of his sword, kicking aside any loose rocks he can.] So...this is a problem.

I think "problem" would be an understatement.

[ He comes to join Sora, looking at the uh. Blockade. Is there anything of note, metatext, that comes from a cursory glance? ]

[ It smells a little bit like a brewery in the mine near the cave-in? As well, there's some powder residue on the floor and some burns... As for how to deal with the cave in, well...

Alphinaud gets to find a glove! It's a little bloody. Alphinaud gets to continue his quest, since his cursory glance of the premises would also have let him see a second thing hanging around the entrance of the mine. ]

He'll take from the same area that Sora is, while keeping his eye on the integrity of the debris and ceiling, his pocket dinosaur displeased with the movement and giving a reeee.

[ I am ruthless, and so you guys will have to do this for a few rounds. The good news is, I am nice and there will be no further cave ins while they are working on this.

Alphinaud is having a great time and gets to find a... shoe? A gentleman's shoe, looking a little bit scuffed up and dirty. hey you guys ever hear that thing about how if you die your shoes come off you think that's related? probably not but imagine. There doesn't seem to be anything else immediately obvious outside the mine for Alphinaud, though... ]

The smell's a little weird though, isn't it?

[ Oh okay, a shoe. He'll ... collect that too. He's just gonna start gathering a whole wardrobe at this rate.

But since that seems to be it (?), Alphinaud wanders back with the other two. He doesn't start digging alongside Sora yet, sorry, instead taking a deep breath in. ]

—Hm, quite. I could swear it is something... alcoholic, mayhap? Peculiar place for it, though.

That's what I was thinking. [ In response to Alphinaud, when he joins them, shifting where he's taking the debris from so that they can hopefully get a little more coverage and no cave-in part two. He doesn't have the OOC knowledge that the mods won't dump rocks on our heads. ]

Some alcohol can be particularly potent, for starting fires. [ Hua Cheng nods at the burns left behind. ] Maybe that's what they did.

[ you gotta dig a little deeper! but they are making steady progress.

and HC might be right, as there's more traces of fire the more rocks they uncover... and some more odd powder. ]

...we're gonna find a burnt corpse under all this aren't we. [he sounds so tired, please. but okay, fine, he's still digging and moving stuff out of the way, checking each uncovered area as they go.]

So then what's with the powder? Dynamite? [is that how that works.] Something big must've blown apart to cause a cave in.

[ Hm. Maybe he'll get his hands dirty this time; Alphinaud begins helping with the debris. ]

Should we clear this away, we may be able to get a better picture.

Dynamite? [ He's an ancient wuxia, please. He keeps digging with the two of them, dumping his rocks into the cart as he goes.

A careful hand goes to a higher rock, the other bracing against the main part of the cave in wall just in case. ]

anyway maybe... if you want to know what the powder is... you can look at it. i will be nice. it's more traces of that and burning in the rocks!

Dynamite is like an explosive. Light it on fire, it explodes and breaks stuff apart, like rocks. [...does he have to look at the powder himself? is it something he'd recognize as they digdigdig?

[ Oh blood, neat! Does this blood lead to a trail anywhere? Because if it does, Alphinaud will allow Sora to do the explaining while examining the powder and follow it instead. ]

Ah. Was there dynamite in here, do we know? [ A glance back towards the abandoned carts and dead canaries, narrowing his eye and pausing in the digging for a moment since Sora is still going and Alphinaud is looking at the blood and powder residue. ]

[ Sora might recognize gunpowder, since it was so difficult to find during pirate week! And yet there's residue of it all over here. Hm.

Also it's not a blood trail it's just blood on the rocks. There's no set pattern, more like they're close enough to what they were looking for. By which I mean, some more rocks are moved and they can now see a body.

Alyssa Zaidelle is probably not shitposting a death this time. ]
