In fact, it's likely nothing more than a groggy memory now, as they open their eyes to unfamiliar surroundings. Apparently, they took a nap right in the middle of a small town, plopped outside on the paved road. Ow? Oh, but it looks like they've been given a goodie bag. Everyone likes gifts, right? Inside, it contains: - a single random one of the following headbands and sparklers - packets of tea - one unlabeled pill - a rock that resembles the galaxy - if they're of age, a mini bottle of alcohol; if they're underage, a can of Mountain D*w Baja Blast instead - a singular condom - a single random one of these pillows (how did this fit?) - a handheld device Should they boot up the device, the screen helpfully informs them that it's a Participant Help System (PHS). Not much on it, but it does have a few apps, including a memo one for taking notes. There's also a messaging system, though it's only capable of receiving messages, not sending any. The Realm is a place that connects all worlds via something called nova, which is what makes up memories. Something's infiltrated it and started taking the nova for itself, which is why we were brought here. To help deal with the problem before it destroys everything.

And for some reason, the best way to get you guys to collect it is to put it in the form of a friendly competition with a reward at the end.

Okay, so something is going to destroy everything and we have to compete to save it all? What kind of friendly competition are we talking here?

You guys have been separated into teams, with each of us as a leader. Whoever collects the most nova by the end wins the competition and gets a wish granted.

[ they pause ]

... And to make sure no one tries to sabotage the competition, teams will be kept secret.

Are we supposed to steal Nova from each other or are we supposed to get it from a place?

[retellers]

No. You'll be collecting the nova using your PHS. [ they show off... the phone! ] Taking other people's nova would be...

[ they trail off. ]
