WEEK ZERO: MINGLE

WEEK ZERO: MINGLE
(43 remain)

Rise and shine, gremlins. The sun is shining, the birds are chirping, and it's the start of a new week.

Speaking of new, if participants turn on their PHS, they'll notice another section available. There's also an alert for a new message, titled TEAM ASSIGNMENT. Opening it will reveal which Leader they have been assigned to. Furthermore, at the corner of the PHS screen is an icon of an animal, depending on who their Leader is. It is visible only to them and no one else.

That's not the only change, though. Participants may not notice at first—or perhaps they will?—but sooner or later, they may realize that they're... missing something? Strange.

Three Leaders can be found around the area, open (?) to approach. If participants want to speak to them more privately, or to an absent Leader, it looks like they'll have to go through another channel. Which is to say, the Planetarium is now open!

Finally, for the rest of the week, the participants will inexplicably have the urge to be physically affectionate. That person you just met days ago? Time to cuddle! This complete stranger you ran into? It sure is tempting to hold their hand. This urge can range anywhere from minor to impossible to ignore, depending on the situation. Enjoy your bonding!

showyourself: (you snow i'm right)

[personal profile] showyourself 2020-09-29 11:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Can you show me? I'd like to see them.
stillnot: (pic#14287057)

[personal profile] stillnot 2020-09-29 11:43 pm (UTC)(link)
If I can find them.

[ she had already been looking around, so... It only takes a moment before she points up! ]

There - that one is the little dipper. And at the end, that bright star is the north star.

[she follows clementine's finger up, and nods as she locates it!]

I see it. And the big dipper?
stillnot: (pic#14286769)

[personal profile] stillnot 2020-09-30 12:43 am (UTC)(link)
Right close by.

[ So she just moves her arm a little bit to point it out. ]

Aaand those are the only ones I know.
showyourself: (snow me the ropes)

[personal profile] showyourself 2020-09-30 01:27 am (UTC)(link)
Good start though, don't you think?

[she gives clementine a friendly, encouraging little nudge.]
stillnot: (pic#14286943)

[personal profile] stillnot 2020-09-30 02:31 am (UTC)(link)
[ she nudges back easily ]

Guess so. It would be cool to know more.
showyourself: (Default)

[personal profile] showyourself 2020-09-30 09:39 am (UTC)(link)
Hmm. I might be able to help you, but only a little bit. Interested?
stillnot: (pic#14286829)

[personal profile] stillnot 2020-09-30 02:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, definitely. Tell me what you know.

[ this is where a 'please' should go, but. oh well. ]
showyourself: (snow me the ropes)

[personal profile] showyourself 2020-09-30 10:34 pm (UTC)(link)
[elsa is too charmed by clem to worry about niceties. not everyone has time for them?]

Which would you prefer? My father's, my mother's, or both?
stillnot: (pic#14286836)

[personal profile] stillnot 2020-10-01 02:05 am (UTC)(link)
[ how could anyone be charmed by this mess, im ]

Definitely both.
showyourself: (takes one to snow one)

[personal profile] showyourself 2020-10-01 03:21 am (UTC)(link)
[elsa nods, and gestures clem closer] Good choice.

Look up. See that star on the end of your little dipper? Do you know what star that is?
stillnot: (pic#14286832)

[personal profile] stillnot 2020-10-01 03:24 am (UTC)(link)
[ she comes a little closer! ]

Uh, yeah. It's the north star.

[ she said that already! ... but she doesn't know that it's Polaris, so she probably shouldn't be so rude. ]
showyourself: (snow me the ropes)

[personal profile] showyourself 2020-10-01 03:29 am (UTC)(link)
Right—or, Polaris. Those are both names that the people in my kingdom, Arendelle, use.

But my mother's people have a different name for it. The "sky-stake". Any guess why?
stillnot: (pic#14286786)

[personal profile] stillnot 2020-10-01 03:34 am (UTC)(link)
... They had a vampire problem?
showyourself: (takes one to snow one)

[personal profile] showyourself 2020-10-01 03:40 am (UTC)(link)
Ooh, creative.

So, Polaris, the North star, is unique, because unlike all the other stars in the sky, it doesn't move during the night. It always stays in the same place—from sunset, to sunrise.

And stakes are things that hold other things down. Like tents. Or vampires.

So...

[personal profile] stillnot 2020-10-01 04:06 am (UTC)(link)
I've used it for navigation before.

[ So...... ] So it's holding down the sky?
showyourself: (snow me the ropes)

[personal profile] showyourself 2020-10-01 11:56 am (UTC)(link)
Close—it's the opposite. The sky-stake holds us down.

They say that our world is an island—and that star is our central pole, keeping us fixed in place. That's why everything else moves, but not that star.
stillnot: (pic#14286797)

[personal profile] stillnot 2020-10-01 02:34 pm (UTC)(link)
... That makes more sense.
showyourself: (you snow i'm right)

[personal profile] showyourself 2020-10-01 09:34 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm glad you think so. I like the image—somewhere between magic and science.

Okay. Big dipper next—or, as we know it in Arendelle, the great wagon.
stillnot: (pic#14286827)

[personal profile] stillnot 2020-10-01 11:05 pm (UTC)(link)
[ clementine does not really think there is a far enough lean towards science. but. then again, different worlds actually have magic, so maybe the ratios are less important. ]

It's cool. Like different cultures and stuff.

[ she looks over to the big dipper. or the great wagon. that makes sense to her. ]

What's the story on that one?
showyourself: (Default)

[personal profile] showyourself 2020-10-01 11:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, this one's pretty straightforward. See the handle of the ladle? The dipper?

That's the tongue and the yoke of the wagon, the part that connects to the horses. Then the scoop—that part—is the wagon bed.

But in Northuldra, that curved handle—or yoke—that's something else again: a hunter's bow.
stillnot: (pic#14286956)

[personal profile] stillnot 2020-10-02 05:32 am (UTC)(link)
Huh. I like the hunter's bow idea more.
showyourself: (snow me the ropes)

[personal profile] showyourself 2020-10-02 06:16 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I like that one, too. It's a lot more interesting.

Imagine choosing a wagon over a bow, right?
stillnot: (pic#14286827)

[personal profile] stillnot 2020-10-02 06:18 am (UTC)(link)
It would depend on your priorities, but...

I could really use a bow.
showyourself: (snow problem)

[personal profile] showyourself 2020-10-02 06:24 am (UTC)(link)
Are you a fan of archery, Clementine?
