WEEK ONE: MINGLE

WEEK ONE: MINGLE (40 remain) Rise and shine, gremlins. The sun is shining, the birds are chirping, and it's the start of a new week. To the participants, yesterday's events may seem distant now—albeit not as distant as their life before this. Whether or not they notice, they will have lost a memory upon waking up. The barrier to the north is down, and beyond the bridge lies new areas to explore. Strangely, what was there last week seems to have been replaced overnight. That's not the only thing that's different, either. The participants will find that their lodgings have changed. Finally, should anyone check their PHS, Hajime, Pikachu, and Virid's profiles have been removed. Three Leaders can be found around the area, open (?) to approach. If participants want to speak to them more privately, or to an absent Leader, it looks like they'll have to go through another channel. Furthermore, it looks as though the rules have updated. Finally, this week, the participants will find themselves drawn to one person in particular. Whoever that is, they will find themselves compelled to be close to them physically. The longer they attempt to resist this, the more compelled they will be... and the closer they will want to be, to the point that it might be emotionally and physically draining to not be holding hands or hugging them for several hours because you've ignored them too long. That's fun.

[ That was also his thought, that all of this is complete bullshit. Kano hasn't seen a lot of shit at all, especially compared to a lot of other people here, but space when they were back on solid ground just several hundred feet ago? Bullshit.

This is science fiction levels of bullshit. I just don't know if it's an illusion or a mockup of a space station.

It'd be a pretty big illusion, wouldn't it?

[ But he's not discounting it, and he also believes it easier to construct than an entire mock space station.

Mashing buttons don't result to much of anything, even after he sweeps his arm across the dashboard and presses a dozen all at once. So, he digs into his pocket and pulls out a rock— just a normal one off the side of the road, but sizeable enough to weigh firmly in the palm of his hand. ]

Hey, stand back a bit?

What, gonna break the window?

[It's not that he doesn't approve, but rather he wants to know exactly what kind of trouble they're about to get into.

That said, he does take a couple steps back.]

[ Well. He was going to go to town on the console of buttons, but he looks up at the window.

Do you think if I break the window we'll all get sucked out and ejected into space? This place is fake, right? No way that'll happen.

[lionson]

I think if this place is fake it'll just break a window, and if it's real the rock'll just bounce off of it because they don't use actual glass in space.

[ Kano knows nothing about space, so this makes sense. He hurls the rock as hard as he can at the glass and then ducks behind the dashboard without even seeing the result.

It probably bounces. His "hard as he can" isn't all that hard. ]

[Thankfully Francy took mercy on us, and it does bounce.]

...huh.

Your throw sucks, kid.

[ Better it sucks than it bouncing off and smacking him back in the face!! Without getting off the ground, Kano shuffles over to his rock and picks it up and shuffles over to Shiro and places the rock on his shoe. ]

Property destruction is a crime, and I'm old enough that it'll stay on my record.

[Also I don't want to kill Shiro and Kano with stupidity.]

[ If they have to die, it had better be stupid ]

What record? Who's gonna report you here?

[ Why do people care about societal rules when they're so far removed from society that they're staring space in the eyes? This is how Lord of the Flies starts, probably. ]

Some of the others here look like sticks in the mud, you know.

Naming names isn't polite.

[ Kano? Care about politeness? Only when Fiora is there to deck him across the face for being a rude boy, but she isn't here either. ]

Hey, do you think the same as everybody else? That there's rules you gotta stick by even if the rulemakers aren't here?

[lionson]

[Ah. So Kano is this kind of feral, is he?]

I always stick by my rules, if that's what you mean. The most important 'rulemaker' is yourself, after all.

"When you see someone in trouble, stop and help them." "Don't let your temper get the better of you." "Try to quell a fight before throwing a punch." "Remember your most important people, and never lose sight of them." "Don't delegate tasks to others if you wouldn't do that task yourself." "Above all else, live."

Those are pretty good rules to live by, I think.

[ There's a flicker of guilt at one of these rules, but Kano's expression smooths out quickly. ]

Heh... And here I was thinking "brush your teeth twice a day" was a good rule to live by. That last one, though... even if you had to break all your other rules, you'd stick by that one?

I suppose I should've stuck "stop and help them" last, because that's when I wouldn't focus on living. But helping others live is a part of "live", I think.

[Which rule got the flicker of guilt tho]

You say that, but I'm already 51. I'd say I've lived a pretty long life already. Saving others hasn't shortened anything.

[suddenlybees]

He~h... You're getting up there! Fifty one, wow.

[ Does Kano personally know anybody who's lived that long? Wow, half a century, old. ]

What, do you feel fulfilled already? Got everything done you needed to get done?

[lionson]

Nah, it's the opposite. I like living. But I've lived by my rules for so long that it doesn't feel like I'm risking my life to do so, since I know what I'm doing.

[suddenlybees]

[ "I know what I'm doing" is an unfathomable concept, somehow. ]

Better than the opposite. Not everybody can look forward like that.

Looking forward to life is better anyway.
