WEEK FIVE: MINGLE

WEEK FIVE: MINGLE (29 remain) Rise and shine, gremlins. The sun is shining, the birds are chirping, and it's the start of a new week. To the participants, yesterday's events may seem distant now—albeit not as distant as their life before this. Whether or not they notice, they will have lost a memory upon waking up. The barrier to the north is down, and beyond the bridge lies new areas to explore. Strangely, what was there last week seems to have been replaced overnight. That's not the only thing that's different, either. The participants will find that their lodgings have changed. Finally, should anyone check their PHS, Alyssa, Hikaru, and Bucky's profiles have been removed. Three Leaders can be found around the area, open (?) to approach. If participants want to speak to them more privately, or to an absent Leader, it looks like they'll have to go through another channel. Furthermore, it looks as though the rules have updated. On that note, if your character did not stay, please make sure to check your notifs. Once again, participants may find that they have difficulty recalling complete details of the past weeks. Finally, participants will find that they now have another pet to take care of. Small creatures (based on any animal of player choice, real or mythical) will be following them around all week. However, these creatures are emotionally tied to their participant, so whatever the person they are connected to is feeling, they will outwardly display it. Angry? They will be hostile. Happy? So are they! Even more, they will react to other participants based on how theirs feels about the other. Anyone their participant loves, they will also love. Hope you don't secretly hate anyone, that might be awkward.

[The dragon looks over at Ange and ... smiles? But like. It has really sharp teeth, so that's probably not as cute as it would be normally.]

Anyway Ange... is still distracted by the dragon. It has... such sharp teeth.]

Yona wonders, briefly, if the effect from staying at the gun range is lingering.]

I asked if you want to learn to use a sword.

[lecarre]

...! Oh. Oh...! Um, sorry, I was... distracted.

[BY THE DRAGON.

Are you certain you would not mind teaching me...? I am afraid I will be a very poor student.

[dawnblushed]

You can't say that before you've even tried. Believe me, if I could learn to use a sword, anyone can.

[she waves a hand at the blacksmith's]

Come on, let's find one that suits you.

[lecarre]

[A deep breath... and she nods firmly.]

Right, all right! If you say so, I am ready to give it my all.

How do we know what sort of sword suits me...?

It needs to be something that feels natural to hold - like it's an extension of your arm. Not too heavy, because you need to be able to lift it, of course.

[in they go! yona looks around at the swords.]

Not too light, either, because you don't want to swing it so quickly you can't keep track of what you'll be hitting.

[lecarre]

Hm...

[Ange pokes through the swords curiously, before she picks one up at random.

It is Very Heavy and she nearly drops it on her foot.]

Oh...! These are heavier than I was expecting.

[dawnblushed]

[oh yikes!

yona surges forward to help catch it and get the pointy tip of the blade away from ange's foot. no injuries here. :/ ]

They're made of solid metal, so they're usually heavier than you'd expect for their size. Let's look for something a little smaller. You don't necessarily need a long sword - with a shorter one, your range isn't as far, but if you can move quickly enough, a bulkier fighter won't be able to keep up with you. That's an advantage.

[lecarre]

[Thank you Yona, you're too good for Ange. Ange flusters a little, rubbing the back of her head.]

R-right... I wasn't prepared, but... perhaps this one instead?

[She chooses a smaller short sword, and picks it up more carefully this time.

No swords are being dropped now as she carefully lifts it.]

[dawnblushed]

[She observes her with the short sword for a moment, then nods.]

That looks a little better. How does it feel in your hand?

[lecarre]

It is rather different...

[It sits awkwardly in her hand, but--]

But I do not think I mind it, necessarily. I just need to learn how to use it properly, correct?

[dawnblushed]

[she smiles encouragingly]

Practice helps. As long as it feels well-balanced and not too heavy or too light, that's where training will work. If it feels unbalanced or too heavy, then we need to start with a different blade.

[lecarre]

anyway, Ange just nods quietly at that, offering a faint smile.]

Okay... I understand. I think it feels all right--I would like to give it a try, at least.

Of course! It's good to have something like this to defend yourself with.

[Ange looks at the sword for a moment.]

Miss Yona, how long did it take you to learn how to use a sword?

[dawnblushed]

[She thinks about it.]

...longer than I'd have liked, but I wasn't able to practice as much as I was able to with the bow. The more you practice, the faster you'll pick it up.

[lecarre]

I see... I shall have to practice very hard, then.

I would like... to be competent enough to not make so many people worry here, in truth.

[dawnblushed]

You can definitely do it. People are capable of great things, when they put their minds to it.

[lecarre]

It is funny, you know... when you say things like that, I believe them more than anything, Miss Yona.

[dawnblushed]

Really? ...maybe it's because I'm speaking from experience. If you'd met me... [she thinks about it] ...less than a year ago, you might not recognize me now.

[Ange blinks at that, tilting her head.]

Why do you say that...? What sort of person were you back then?

[That isn't a ton of time, after all.]

I didn't know how to do anything for myself.

[ha ha.]

...also, I was pretty spoiled.

[Ange just shakes her head a little at that.]

It is so hard for me to imagine, Miss Yona... what happened to change everything?

I had to leave home. I didn't adjust very well at first, but... it's amazing, the things you'll learn to do when that's what it takes to survive.
