WEEK SEVEN: MINGLE

WEEK SEVEN: MINGLE (21 remain) Rise and shine, gremlins. The sun is shining, the birds are chirping, and it's the start of a new week. To the participants, yesterday's events may seem distant now—albeit not as distant as their life before this. Whether or not they notice, they will have lost a memory upon waking up. As usual, the participants will find that their lodgings have changed, and should anyone check their PHS, Chiron, Ochako, Soo-won, and Dorothy's profiles have been removed. They may also find that they have difficulty recalling complete details of the past weeks. Furthermore, it looks as though the rules have updated. Not everything is the same as the previous pattern, though. The barrier to the north is back up, and once more, what lies beyond is an empty field. In contrast, however, participants may notice that they can finally access a place they haven't been able to before... Additionally, it looks like the Leaders aren't around. No matter where the participants look, they're nowhere to be found. Should anyone try calling for them in the Planetarium, there will be no response—not even a message telling the participant that they're busy. Finally, everything around the participants begins to... glitch? Buildings may suddenly blink out of existence and then back in, random items like chairs or cups may suddenly distort even while they're being used, and looking at any particular thing for too long may give someone a headache. It's worse than it was that one week, though: participants will find that it's happening to themselves as well. Body parts might suddenly glitch out of existence then back in, and there will be a shot of pain when it occurs. It'll happen randomly, but it also seems to occur more often if they're touching something or another person.

[ Are the characters frozen or are the city folk frozen? Is it both? This is all strange.

Anyway, Jeanne doesn't necessarily recognize modern day Tokyo, but would it look anything like a city that Jeanne may or may not have seen in a fog? ]

Let's go north, if nothing stands out.

[ A direction is better than none. She agrees with Ange.

[ They're completely frozen until they move away from them! Weird. Guess they don't want tourists walking up to them, that's a mood. But also Jeanne may possibly yes recognize seeing a flash of this city.

There doesn't seem to be anything immediately noticeable at a glance, aside from people freezing when they get too close, but assuming they head north... they'll hear music. ]

[ i'm becks i'm [static noises] and i never learned how to interpret meaning in text in murdergames.

anyway i guess the smallest, youngest person here is telling them where to go and who are they to question it? alex takes one last look around and then i guess they are heading towards the music.

what does it sound like...? ]

[Onwards, towards the music! Ange's eyebrow quirks upwards when that happens, and she's definitely on high alert, but she keeps on moving forward anyway.

Nothing ventured nothing gained!

[ I also cannot read, but Hilda doesn't know anything about modern cities, so. She'll just j-walk after the others as they follow the music! ]

Well, this place is... weird.

[retellers]

[ Ara said to skip her, so the others will never know Jeanne may recognize this place for another three hours. It sounds like rock music! I have no idea which of you besides Alex will know what that is, but here we are.

They may also notice that a crowd seems to be forming towards where the music is? ]

[chanteuser]

Well that sounds appropriately modern... But this place is way fancier looking than Ergastulum.

[ she's gonna. go on her tippy toes? to see if she can see anything over the crowd? probaly not but she's the tallest one here i think so.

otherwise she's gonna move towards that crowd. ]

[lecarre]

[Okay yeah I take it back, Ange wasn't moving towards music, she was moving towards a cacophony of sounds she did not understand #victorianEraLyfe

That is a crowd though!! If she learned anything from her last jaunt it's... well, first it's that this place sucks so she's on high alert, but secondly she learned that things happening means they're probably going in the right direction.

Alex seems to understand what's happening, so as they move towards the crowd:]

Why is there a crowd gathering here?

[ what even is a guitar. an electric lyre. anyway she is apparently the shortest person here so she's not seeing anything like this.

she does see if she can elbow past people, though... ]

Some sort of performance? Judging by the ruckus.

[retellers]

[ Luckily, elbowing past them won't be too difficult because they're still doing the freezing thing. It'll just take a bit since it's a large crowd. Alex can see some of a stage? There's people on it at the moment, so they might be the source of the music.

Continue being rude and shoving people. ]

[chanteuser]

[ thank you. they will. ]

It looks like an impromptu concert. I know... well, singing performances tend to gather crowds, but I haven't seen them outside much. [ because ergastulum just be that dangerous sometimes. ]

[ she's gonna shimmy shimmy past a few people to try and get a clearer view of the stage - what's occurring? ]

[lecarre]

[Thanks for the deets! Now Ange goes back to saying basically nothing.]

I see.

[Anyway Ange is doing less of a shimmy and more of a "take advantage of how people freeze up to slide right between people in the crowd".

They all have their methods, point is, they're moving towards the stage.]

Oh, a concert! That's fun.

[ Hilda will continue making a path to the front row, where she belongs? She would be that tiny person with a giant boyfriend who hogs the best spot in the front and doesn't budge.

Except instead she has girl crew, which is better. She's probably holding Jeanne's hand and pushing ahead.

Anyway, is the music... good? ]

[retellers]

[ It's... decent. When they're close enough, they'll see that it's some band that is doing their closing number. It doesn't seem too interesting.

Off to the side of the stage, though, is a young man who seems to be looking directly at the girls. He smiles. ]

[chanteuser]

[ h m


well the music is only okay so alex looks around - does not perceive the guy looking at them for the moment - trying take in what she can regarding the people on stage and the enthusiasm of the crowd.

but she does whisper, eventually: ]

That guy is staring at us.

[lecarre]

[unfortunately Ange notices immediately.

And stares back.]

He has been since we made it to the front of the crowd, if not earlier.

[...]

Should I incapacitate him? [Ange no]

[axecessory]

...Maybe we can try talking first!

[ ange please don't destroy the npcs on sight. hilda will smile and wave at this weirdo who's looking their way. ]

[retellers]

[ He smiles and waves back!

The music continues to be just okay as everyone else listens to okay music. ]

[chanteuser]

[ alex subconsciously starts humming to the just okay music. she will also wave! a little smaller than hilda's though. ]

If they're all from this place they might have helpful information, Ange.

[lecarre]

[Fine.

Ange sighs, closes her eye for a moment, and then straightens and heads over towards the guy.

She has slapped a familiar look on her face, unfortunately.]

U-um...! Excuse me, sir--is... is there something we can help you with...?

[axecessory]

[ the return of fake ange..... hilda shoots her a Look but keeps up an easy smile otherwise as they work their way towards that side of the stage.

hopefully he doesn't freeze when they get closer? ]

[retellers]

[ He does not! He just smiles pleasantly at them, offering a small bow beofre he speaks. ]

You're the next act, correct? It's a shame that she couldn't make it, but I'm sure you'll do brilliantly instead.

[chanteuser]

[ there's a pause while she just stares at the back of ange's head and also closes her eyes. there she go.

[... Hm.

Ange wonders--do they need to do this to progress, or is this a waste of time?

Knowing the Realm, probably the former, but she doesn't really want to waste any time that they don't have to. With this set-up, though....

A-are you sure...? I think, um, you may be mistaken, mister...

[axecessory]

[ this is the ange she's more used to, but it sure is weird to see now...

Oh. [ well, that doesn't sound too bad. rescue who? girl group time. ] Sorry, who are we supposed to be filling in for again?
